I saw that when it was on TV  :lol

It was when "Are you Smarter Than a 5th Grader" was having celebrity guests on to do the contest for charity. I forget her name, but she is a musician if I recall correctly. . . err, scratch that -- she is some person involved with music somehow  :lol I country singer I think?

Anyway, when I was watching it, I was so confused because I wasn't sure whether to be ANGRY or piss myself! It was hilarious, but I mean, it is so frustrating knowing she is so ignorant  :lol It's people like her that give that old sterotype of Americans not knowing their geography, which quite obviously, isn't true except in cases like hers.

Oh well, she's entertaining at least  :rollin

I would like to begin by saying that my geography skills are not particularly strong.

But that woman is a fucking idiot.  How out of touch with everything do you have to be to not know that, excusable brain farts aside?

That's level one.

Level two:  Not having heard of it.  Being completely surprised to hear of a country with a name like "Hungary."

Level three--no wait, these should be circles, like circles of Hell.

Third Circle:  Guessing "France" without having the intelligence to say something like "even though I know the capital is Paris."

Fourth Circle:  Not knowing the difference between a country and a continent.

I suppose we could always blame the southern education system.

Okay...

Now that that's all out of my system, that video is absolutely hilarious!

Can anyone say "Third Grade Education"?

I would so win that show, hands down, because I was the smartest kid in my class when i was in fifth grade.

also, my eighth grade social studies teacher was right about people thinking europe's a country.

but one thing i've always been confused about is Australia, being both a country and a continent. if that ever came up on the show, i would be screwed.

I was actually thinking the answer was "Romania" but then I remembered Romania's capital is Bucharest, which sounds pretty similar to Budapest in my opinion.  I guess this is why I went into science instead of geography.  :lol

I think the only thing that this show really proves is how useless the information learned in elementary school really is.

europe is kind of confusing sometimes: there's budapest and bucharest but also bratislava and belgrade which may not be confused with belgium or bulgaria  :-\

And yes, you can be hungry in turkey or have turkey in hungary. Or you can come to austria and get a big mac combo  ;D

you can do the same thing in the states, but here the big mac's will give you an instant heart attack (if paired with a steak bomb sandwich from D'Angelo)

Quote from the article:

For brevity, it is understandable that many of the locals simply refer to their village as "Llanfair" www.llanfair.com or "Llanfair PG" or "Llanfairpwll" which, of course, makes for easier typing and is faster to pronounce.

Is it just me, or did anyone else think: "Is that even pronouncible?!" ?

Tetaumatawhakatangihangakoauaotamateaurehaeaturipukapihimaungahoronukupokaiwhenuaakitanarahu
in New Zealand with a staggering 92 characters however even this seems positively tiny compared to the town of

Krungthepmahanakornamornratanakosinmahintarayutthayamahadilokphop
nopparatrajathaniburiromudomrajaniwesmahasatharn
amornphimarnavatarnsathitsakkattiyavisanukamprasit

in Thailand which is a whopping 163 characters long so long that it doesn't even fit on one line!

And those places can't be real. . . are they?  :lol
