Title: A burning question
Post by: nimrod on February 29, 2008, 01:28:31 PM
Ok so Charlie has over 30 posts now and yet he is still ranked as "Newbie" - when exactly does it change?

VFS has 50 posts and now seems to be ranked Jr. Member. I guess 50 is probably a fair number, though 30 might be closer to the mark. Mods, VIPs and Administrators should probably not have those other ranks though, looks a bit odd when you see Global Moderator and you look below and they're a Newbie.

Title: Re: A burning question
Post by: VFS on March 01, 2008, 06:08:49 AM
so, the way it's setup by default is:

Newbie 0-50 posts
Jr. Member 51-100
Full Member 101 - 250
Sr. Member 251 - 500
Hero Member 500 +

Sounds like we could take some suggestions for new names/numbers. No guarantees any will be implemented, but it's useless anyhow so may as well have some fun with it!

LOL.

This is my serious :blob: revised version :) Some forums have different groups depending on the role a member plays, that would be quite cool. We could obviously have global moderators, then those ranks with 0 stars are "The Slums", ranks with 1-3 stars are "The Crew", and 4+ stars are "Royalty". Here are my ideas for ranks but some of them suck so I may edit this post later

Newbie 0-50 posts (0 stars)
Fledgling 51-100 (0 stars)
Member 101 - 250 (1 star)
Expert 251 - 500 (2 stars)
Music Guru 501 - 750 (3 stars)
Insomniac 751 - 1000 (4 stars)
Custom Rank 1000+ (5 stars)

Title: Re: A burning question
Post by: VFS on March 01, 2008, 07:42:17 AM
I'm planning to disable postcount based groups entirely and just have Administrators, Global Moderators, Forum VIPs (band members) and Regular Members. Though we might consider setting up a PayPal donation button to help pay server fees if this place gets rockin' busy - those people would get to be Alumni, for helping support the place.

Just thinking out loud. :)

Billy & Charles: 0-50 posts
Franke & the Knockouts: 51-100
When Dream & Day Unite: 101 - 250
03, Part 1 251 - 500
03, Part 2 501 - 750
03, Part 3 751 - 1000

My thoughts exactly. We are a relatively small community right now, which is kind of cool and intimate(mmmmm) but I'm afraid that if we start really buzzing the server fees will skyrocket.
Ouch!

You know what I think? Since we are still a relatively small community here...we should form an elite membership title that no one after the 50th member can have EVER! The first 50 people that had the coolness to come here and join. We need a special title for all 50 (well 48,47 if Bosk1 doesnt get around to activating soon) AND I need to get a special reward figured out for those first 50 as well.
Maybe we can be "The USD" United states of Dominici  LOL!  and everyone can have a state, like VFS would be miss louisiana or something(can you tell I got the Hungarian wine bottle out again tonight?) hehe.
Never mind.

I  <3 the idea of being in a superior group of people  ;D

so lets recapitulate the grouping suggestions so far:

1) postcounts aka do you have a life ?
2) paypal donations would turn the kind donors into celestial beings with custom member titles
3) the first 50 who registered this forum would either become
    a) citizens of a new country
    b) The Founding 50
    c) Charlie's children (however, the affiliation cases would then use up the money mentioned
        under point 2, I suppose  :-\)

should we have a poll on this ??

I  <3 the idea of being in a superior group of people  ;D

so lets recapitulate the grouping suggestions so far:

1) postcounts aka do you have a life ?
2) paypal donations would turn the kind donors into celestial beings with custom member titles
3) the first 50 who registered this forum would either become
    a) citizens of a new country
    b) The Founding 50
    c) Charlie's children (however, the affiliation cases would then use up the money mentioned
        under point 2, I suppose  :-\)

Not SUPERIOR people....Superior beings! The first 50 will soon be given their rightful title.
It has nothing to do with money, donations, purchases or anything of that nature. Merely that they were loyal enough to be here first!

Well like I said before I think we should get 4 stars :hat

I also think our member group should be something like Forum Elder or Forum Founder (but maybe not the latter as we didn't actually found it):tup

What are we going to do about those people who have signed up but haven't actually posted yet? They might post once in the next year and people will be like "why do they have special status?"

Not SUPERIOR people....Superior beings!

So does that mean when O3 Part 3 hits stores on Mars, the first 50 of us will still be cooler than all the Martians that join the forum?

Nobody actually knows if Martians are cool though, right?

But I'd sure feel better knowing that I'm guaranteed to be cooler anyway.  You know, just in case.
