Title: Pronunciation of "Dominici"
Post by: SeaWolf on March 04, 2008, 12:36:45 PM
This may or may not be a dumb question, so mods remove this if you deem it so.

So how do you pronounce your name?  I've always pronounced it DOM-uh-NEE-chee, but I recently obtained an audience recording of one of your shows with DT (great show btw) and you pronounce your name completely differently.  Because of the low quality of the recording, I can't quite make it out, but I was just wondering how you pronounce it.

Yeah, so both of you pronounce it that way too... I swear hearing Charlie pronounce it something like dom-IN-uh-SEE, but like I said, it's a poor quality recording, so I'm not sure.

Not a dumb question at all. The fact is I pronounced my last name wrong for most of my life. Up until 1989 or 1990 I was pronouncing it they way my paerents always did: "Do mini see" After my older sister told me that my Granfather changed his last name to "Dominick" when he joined the army because people always pronounced it wrong and the original spelling was different. It was originally Dominiche. When he came out of the army they changed it back for him but they spelled it wrong: Dominici. After I heard about this I wanted to change my name back to the correct name and spelling but I settled for the new spelling with the correct pronunciation. Actually, Italians always pronounce it right because in Italian the "C" is usually a "hard" c.

So it's pronounced "Dominick" then? Just checking :)

... so is the band name actually pronounced that way too? (this is very interesting! thanks cwolfe for the great question.)
