I have several different lists, all dependant on mood. My CD collection spans a couple of decades (I wish I still had all of my cassettes from the 80s as well) so of course not everything in it would necessarily go on a list of "what I listen to" .. .at least not regularly.

The bands/CDs I've listened to most often over the past year or so are:

Porcupine Tree
Dream Theater
Blackfield
Dominici
Tim Burton's "The Nightmare Before Christmas" soundtrack (my daughter's favorite)
Rush (listened to a lot of them this year since I saw them in concert for the first time this year)

Of course, that's a tiny part of what I own, and what I'd list as being in my overall collection, or what I'd list as my favorites.

I have the Led Zeppelin discography, Marillion discography, The Tea Party discography, stuff like that which I haven't listened to much the past year or so, and all 30 gigs of stuff on my iPod that I sift through but couldnt' really list most stuff on as being "What I listen to" regularly...

the majority of my music that endures is 80s hair band stuff (because my oldest boy is into that stuff now, and because I loved it the first time around), and 70's classic rock (because that's what I've loved and listened to the most and have the most of).

Led Zeppelin
Eric Clapton
Crosby, Stills, Nash, & Young
solo Neil Young
Grateful Dead
Steve Miller Band
Fleetwood Mac (Great to sing along with, my range is a lot like Stevie Nicks')

.. these are all names that have been in and out of my music listening rotation and have had solid places in my cassette/CD collection for twenty years now.

I'd list more but my laptop battery is crying at me. Sad

edit: plugged it in. Gotta give mentions to KISS whose entire freakin massive discography I've got, and a lot of the compilations and live albums as well (I have 24 KISS CDs, each double counted as one, I think) and Aerosmith who I've seen three times live over the years and who kicks ass still for the most part. Couldn't go without mentioning them.

And let's not forget a couple of albums that are in constant rotation, just don't get played more than once every 6-12 months because theyre' so epic that they just seem to last that long: Metallica's RTL, MoP (especially this one), AJFA, and black album, and Queensryche's O:M.

Seconded.  I'm probably not quite as impressed with them as you are, but I can tell by what I've heard (first two albums) that I'm going to love it even more the second time through.

Good stuff.  It's weird that they can sound like Porcupine Tree AND Dream Theater at different points of the same song.

Focus

Focus?  As in, the guys that did that song called Hocus Pocus that mixed awesome hard rock with weird flute solos and yodeling?

Because that song is awesome.  And I have long wondered if it is possible for a non-European to get his hands on some of their other stuff.  Focus is pretty obscure over here.    Sad

I have a small 20gb Archos that does not even begin to hold all my music.

For the show I have to have my entire collection, along with a good amount of a friends collection ripped to my PC.

In total on here I have 9,659 tracks.

Add to that the fact I have well over 2 terrabytes in lossless audio and video bootlegs and I have a shitload of music.

I only have 3,655 (and bound to increase), which is about 19.83 gigabytes on an 80GB ipod (actually it's like 74.6, or something like that. Apple's milking it by 5.4 gigs; how untrustworthy). Or if you like it's 11.2 days worth of music.

You beat me by a long shot.

I don't have an extreme amount of songs since I don't download music, but it's pretty easy to get up there if you do illegally download music. A friend of mine has somewhere in the lower range of the tens of thousands of songs; 99% illegally downloaded. The ironic part is that he is a real technology nerd, not a music nerd (that includes cars, computers, etc. He's actually won the national skills competition for the automotive industry twice! All he does is fix shit  ) and he never gets through all those songs.

But yeah, Nick's collection is especially impressive since I'm sure much of it (if not all of it) is completely authentic

They aren't milking anything actually. Just like with any Hard Drive, there is 80 gigs there, however some of it is set aside for the iPod/Drive itself to use for formatting.
