WE ARE THE LORDS!

« on: August 11, 2010, 09:50:04 AM »

Ya know, I've just recently been getting into Dominici. I've known about it for like half a year to a year, but never really looked into it that much. I once came to this site and looked around on the forum a bit (saw a thread in this subforum about some jerk asking Charlie why he hated freedom), but then I forgot about it for a while.

Yeah, so just recently I acquired the O3 Trilogy, and I was amazed. The first album was kinda plain, but it was cool and you could follow the story well. Charlie is in fact very good with the accoustic guitar and harmonica. Smiley

Then I got to the second and third albums, with the whole band. I'm a huge fan of Dream Theater (which is how I know about Dominici), and the albums totally reminded me of them. Really, really cool.

So yeah, I was listening to Dominici the other day, and suddenly I thought, "Wouldn't it be awesome if Dominici released a Live DVD of the entire O3 Trilogy?"

The whole first album could be redone with the band, and it would just be awesome. You could do Afterlife as an encore. It would be a really long DVD/CD, but wouldn't you agree it'd be awesome?

I'd buy it. For sure.

EDIT: Also, is there a section of the forum for introductions?

Hey Ark,

I apologize for being absent from this forum and for not answering your post but I was abducted by aliens and they took me 300 years into the future where I saw that you had made a ton of money from my music that you put on Youtube. Hey, where's my share?

I'm wondering if I actually did get my share of the payments from all the youtube videos posted by fans I might actually be able to pay my rent this month.

I never pushed the issue because I know it would make me look like a jerk but the fact is if I filed a claim with them, youtube would take the posts away from the fan that posted it and it would then be mine. The proceeds from the video would then go to me including any and all payments that were made retroactively (anytime there ad ads on youtube videos the ads generate revenue per click that go to the owner of the post).

Seems like a harsh action but I'm beginning to think I have no choice. Once the video has ads placed on it by a 3rd party there are payments made to the poster (owner) of the video.  If you have not been getting this money then I need to know so I can contact youtube and get us both paid. I believe that the poster( fan) deserves some of the money for their efforts but don't you think the writer and creator of the intellectual property (song) deserves a cut? With literally hundreds of posts on youtube and some having thousands of views it ads up.

As far as making any more CDs or DVDs like you suggest I would love to do that but the truth is there is no money for any of it mainly because of the lack of fan support. Bittorrenting the albums and non payment of royalties is a big reason why.

The damage this does to a band is heavy but the worst effect it has on us is the accounting of sales that the label uses to decide whether or not they will support another CD of tour. When they see only 15,000 CD sales they lose interest in the band and the band usually fades into obscurity.

I spent a few years struggling to keep the band together and I went broke using my own money.

So you see it's not such a little thing after all.

Peace.
