well, ok, I don't get it at all maybe since I'm not a dtf. member or maybe I'm just drunk beyond good and evil ... I don't know... just explain wtf is happening, ok Huh?Huh?Huh?Huh?Huh???

Once upon a time there was one big message board, dt.net. When it closed, most people (who had become sort of friends) went to a new dt board that some created, dtf.com. Then the staff/admin team there ended up with differences that couldn't be worked out, so that forum split into two forums, fiveeight and dtf.org.

Lots of people on each board seem to dislike the other board, and vice versa.

Fiveeight shut down about 24 hours ago and most people came over to dtf to post and see what was going on.

Most DTF people had no real problem with that, because what's past is past and what's done is done. Some did'nt like them there, and were rude.

DTF made one thread for fiveeight people to post in, they did, now fiveeight is back open with new owners.

story over.

moral: VFS/JustJen might've been wrong about fiveeight and misses lots of people she saw the past 24 hours.

The End.

All I know is that thread has me more tense than I've been in a long time. It's good to see some old faces, but there are a lot of trolls and people I don't like at 5/8, and the sooner I don't have to see them again the better. Emotions are flaring, and it will just be good again once the two communities have two forums again. Hopefully if nothing else this episode will just cause some of the better 5/8 posters to stay around DTF more.

You still post there as Xanadu though, don't you?

Um... no.

I think I've posted at 5/8 once or twice since the split. And those one or two posts were directly due to someone linking me to a thread.

What I meant was the thread could have been started months ago, before the split, and I posted in it then. Was probably resurrected with Charlie around and such.

I went to 5/8 and saw that I still had my account from when it was still DTF.com, with all my post count and the sig of the Latin Gang.

Well, the big problem was the WAY the split came about.  Jen's explanation was the very diplomatic answer. Wink

When the original dt.net forum (the one that used to be on the official site) shut down way back in the day, we had absolutely no warning or explanation of it.  One day it was there.  The next day it was suddenly gone.  To this day we still have never gotten an explanation.  (This didn't actually cause any tension between the two groups, but its just good background information to explain why we were so pissed the second time around).

Anyway, what happened with the second break-off (the one that started all the trouble), was that the admins over there (at dtf.com) one day started suddenly talking about how a big portion of the community was drifting away from DT, and that they had been kicking around the idea of turning the place into a general prog forum without any affiliation with DT.  They put it to a vote, and there was some discussion about it, with a good amount of opposition, but within a day or two of making this announcement, the admins decided that they didn't actually care about the voting or talking about what people wanted, and that they were going to go ahead with their original plan anyway, thus 5/8 was born.  This, I think, is where all the animosity came from.  All the DT fans (and there were quite a number of them), had just had their SECOND DT forum taken away from them, without any real explanation, warning or opportunity to have a say in it.

I think Thal was the one who originally really pushed for the split.  (Which is actually kind of funny, because now he's abandoned 5/8 as well... I guess abandoning forums is his speciality.  Him and Itchy would probably get along well.)

I think Thal was the one who originally really pushed for the split.  (Which is actually kind of funny, because now he's abandoned 5/8 as well... I guess abandoning forums is his speciality.  Him and Itchy would probably get along well.)

The admins at .com were Aran, Shawn, Thal, and Anti.

Our biggest mistake at .com was giving Thal power. Out of nowhere someone who had no prior links to the community came up and just said, hey, I'll host your site for you. So we agreed to it and made him an admin. From there him and Josh came up with the master plan for this new site, and when there was an uproar over a ban of Elnimio they through this plan at the forum. Of course the mod staff was completely against it, as was Shawn, the original founder of the site and the one who should have had final say. So without the consent of the mods, and without the consent of the forum (60% were against the split), Thal and Josh made the split happen and stole the database we had all helped to create.

Thal is the main one to blame as he is the one who took the database and really spearheaded things, however Josh was supposed to have DTF.com automatically re-direct to our new site, however he didn't till about two weeks after it directed to 5/8. So while Thal stole the database Josh took the traffic and it royally fucked DTF.org a good bit.

Aran was helping to plan the new site, but took enough offense to the way Josh and Thal handled things that he tried to help us at .org out and through it all I came out still very much liking Aran and wish him the best. He would have never hi-jacked and sneakily done things the way the other two had.

I remember the day .org started that I wrote DTF.com on my browser, I wasn't redirected to .org but a window came up that said that the site was gone and I could go to 5/8 or DTF.org.

And if Thal robbed the database then that's why I have my account and post count from DTF.com on 5/8, even though I've never posted there and, frankly, I don't think I ever will.

I guess it's only fitting the things that happen at 5/8 that led to Thal pulling the plug and removing himself from anything 5/8 related. I bet Thal is thinking that karma's a bitch.
